Each year our New York Central (NYC) Region rotates the location for their annual Open House, held at the end of September.

This year it was back to the Litchfield Plant & Quarry located outside of Utica, NY. As always, the event was meant to showcase what we do and provide a hands-on learning experience for our vendors, customers, neighbors, local politicians and employee families to visit one of our locations.

Local Congressman, Richard Hanna, attended the open house and was eager to tour the facility and show his support for our industry. We also had many of our regular customers from the Litchfield Plant and Quarry who attended and got to see the location from a different perspective. As always, the children’s events were a huge hit with the mini excavator basketball challenge, the pile of screenings filled with toy trucks and dozers, the sand buckets and shovels, and several other games including breaking open geodes to find them filled with quartz (which turned out to be the favorite for many of the kids, aside from the donuts and cider of course!). We had approximately 75 people attend the event, and we could not have asked for a more beautiful day weather-wise.

Other attractions for the “big kids” and grown-ups included guided-driven tours of the Quarry and the Plant by Scot Owens, a Geology table filled with interesting samples manned by Dave Shank from Strategic Mining Solutions, the Safety Information booth run by Tuesday Hamoy, an Employee Relations and Company informational booth run by Heather Schmidtka, as well as various games and a lot of great food.

This years raffle proceeds all went to the Children’s Miracle Network at Faxton St. Luke’s of Utica and we are proud to say that we were able to donate a check for $1,500 to the foundation! The event raised $1,000 with the remainder being donated by the Region. An extra special thank you goes out to the Kotary family for their generous efforts in this fundraising event!

We would like to send a huge thank you to the 16 employees and several of their family members who helped out and gave up a beautiful Saturday to work the event, and an even greater thank you to everyone who bought balloons or raffle tickets to help us support this amazing foundation which helps local children with serious illnesses.
